New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has appointed lawyer Ramzi Kassem as the city’s chief counsel. Kassem, who previously represented an individual in an al-Qaeda-related terrorism case and advised the Biden administration on immigration policy, will bring his extensive legal experience to the role. He also co-founded a project focused on law enforcement accountability and has represented students detained by ICE.
