China has opened the world’s longest expressway tunnel, the 22.13-kilometer Tianshan Shengli tunnel, significantly cutting travel time across the Tianshan mountains. This new infrastructure dramatically reduces journeys from several hours to just 20 minutes, connecting northern and southern Xinjiang and becoming a vital transport artery.
